"The biggest change in cities is that more and more people want to live in the centre", says Osmo Soininvaara.
Osmo Soininvaara is known as a city visionary, an experienced member of parliament, former Chairperson the Green Party and member of the City of Helsinki’s city council.
What are Soininvaara’s thoughts on city planning today?
“The biggest change in cities is that more and more people want to live in the centre. There has been talk in Helsinki that the city would somehow become worse if buildings were constructed in a more compact manner, but the opinion seems to be changing.”
“In the city plan of Helsinki, the amount of people living inside the Kehä I motorway has gone up by 150,000 individuals, which means that traffic has also been revolutionised. Traffic must now be planned to rely on public transportation and rail traffic.”
