Destia is building wind power infrastructure for OX2 in Pieksämäki

Destia is building wind farm infrastructure for OX2 at the Niinimäki wind farm in Pieksämäki, which will be the largest wind farm in eastern Finland when completed in late 2024. It will generate 400 gigawatt-hours of renewable energy, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 80,000 households.

According to the contract, Destia will design and build the wind farm’s roads, lifting fields and wind turbine foundations. Destia will also build the wind farm’s electricity and telecommunications network. Destia will be using state-of-the-art digital project tools, such as machine intelligence-based data services, to ensure fast and accurate project completion.

“The contract with OX2 for the infrastructure construction of the Niinimäki wind farm is strategically important for Destia as we seek growth in renewable energy infrastructure construction. In this project, we can draw on our solid expertise in infrastructure construction and electricity networks. In a world facing a climate and energy crisis, the responsible production of renewable electricity is ever more important,” says Mikko Niinimaa, Head of Unit, Wind Power Construction, Destia.

“To get to implement the first large wind farm in eastern Finland is a great honour for us. Wind power investments have a positive impact on the regional economy of Savo and provide a good geographical dispersion of wind power generation in Finland. We chose Destia as the infrastructure contractor for the Niinimäki wind power project because of their solid expertise in large infrastructure projects and power grids, as well as their digital project tools that allow us to easily monitor the progress of the project,” says Teemu Loikkanen, Regional Manager Finland and the Baltics, OX2.
