A new bicycle route

A new bicycle route called Pohjoisbaana will soon run along the main railway line in Helsinki, stretching from Pasila to Käpylä. Pohjoisbaana is part of the extensive bicycle network outlined by the Helsinki City Planning Department, which will cover 130 kilometres once completed.
“The first four routes will be constructed by 2020,” says Jukka Repo, project manager at the City of Helsinki Public Works Department.
The network of bicycle routes will encourage Helsinki residents to choose the environmentally friendly bicycle for commuting or running errands. Clearly wider and flatter than the present bicycle paths, the new routes will pave the way for fast, direct and steady-paced biking.
Wide and flat aptly characterise the 1.6-kilometre-long Pohjoisbaana, which is an exceptional construction project in many respects. With the railway so close, the site must have the required permits for track work. Destia has entrusted its reliable long-term partners to obtain the permits and handle practical arrangements.
