Ounaskoski bridge, Rovaniemi
Destia worked on the challenging renovation of the Ounaskoski railway and highway bridge. The steel bridge is a continuous truss bridge with the roadway on the bottom and the railway on top. For the duration of the renovation, the bridge was closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The project started in 2017 and was completed in 2018. The customers were the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, who was responsible for the costs of the railway traffic, and the City of Rovaniemi, who was responsible for the road, pedestrian and bicycle lane section.
In the bridge renovation, the pedestrian and bicycle lanes were renewed, tracks were replaced and a service deck was constructed for the railway section. In addition, the roadway was surfaced and the entire steel bridge was sandblasted and painted. The goal of the project was to improve the flow of the railway, highway, pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

- Bridge closed for 8 months during the renovation
- 12,000 meters of large planks used
- After the renovation, the cycle path is required to carry a load of over 6,000 kg
