Hämeentie project started in 2019 and it will be completed by the end of 2020. The customer of the project is the City of Helsinki. The project is implemented in a challenging urban environment between Siltasaarenkatu and Pääskylänkatu.
In the project, Hämeentie will be transformed into a street for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport. Tramline tracks, underground water mains, sewers and cabling are renewed. In addition, Sörnäinen metro station is renovated.
The goal of the project is to improve the safety and flow of traffic. The project increases the opportunities for cycling, walking and using public transport and reduces the use of passenger cars.

- 6 km of tramline tracks renewed
- 4 km of sewers renewed
- Over 50 km of cable protection tubes renewed
- 2 km of water pipes renewed
