Destia to develop its corporate culture and strengthen its competitiveness THE INFRASTRUCTURE COMPANY SEEKING GROWTH IN CITIES AND FROM THE NORDIC AREAS

14.01.2019 10:00:00

According to its new strategy 2019-2023, Destia will grow into a stronger urban developer in a changing, increasingly demanding operating environment. At the same time, Destia will chart new business opportunities in Northern Sweden and Northern Norway. Destia’s goal is ”Connecting northern life”. To implement the strategy, Destia will renew its organisational structure.

”Destia and its predecessors have been building infrastructure, the foundation of a functional Finland, for centuries. The goal of our renewed strategy is to utilise our core expertise by combining northern life in and between cities. A shared goal and a supporting value base are our points of departure when we develop our corporate culture”, says Tero Kiviniemi, President and CEO of Destia.

Destia’s corporate culture is based on new values: fairly, together, renewing and successfully. Corporate culture is developed in accordance with the leadership promise “Coaching a winning team”.

Goal is to secure competitiveness and growth

Changes are taking place in the operating environment, due to urbanisation, digitalisation, climate change, population ageing and the depletion of natural resources, for example. In other Nordic countries, especially in their northern areas, the markets are expected to continue to grow. In Finland, however, the economic trend in infrastructure construction is predicted to be more challenging than in the other Nordic countries.

Destia is looking for a more prominent role in the sector’s value chain. Its strategy is to secure the competitiveness of its core business and international growth in the selected strategic areas as well as to introduce more refined business and urban development together with its partners.

”Our competitive advantage is built on customer orientation, a sense of infrastructure, smart production and inspiring leadership. The primary goal is to improve profitability. The spearhead of our geographical expansion are renewable energy solutions”, says Kiviniemi.

Service-specific organisation

To implement the aspired corporate culture and strategy, Destia will renew its organisational structure. The new, planned organisation will allow geographical expansion and developing new services and top expertise, as well as pursue closer cooperation and securing competitiveness. A key change will be the shift from a regional to a service-specific organisation.

Employee co-operation negotiations will be launched, due to the important organisational reform. The intention is to reduce approximately 60 man-years from Destia’s whole personnel, who number approximately 1,600 persons. According to a preliminary estimate, the reduction need will not concern project personnel or employees.

”The organisational reform will boost the renewal of our corporate culture and the implementation of our strategy. We want to develop as a company and better address the transition and changing conditions of the markets in the sector”, says Tero Kiviniemi.
