Destia’s financial statements for 2018 have been published: GROWTH IN REVENUE AND OPERATING PROFIT, EXCELLENT ORDER BOOK
Destia had a successful year in 2018: the Group’s revenue increased while profitability and occupational safety improved. Thanks to the strong order book and renewed strategy, Destia is well positioned for the new year.
Destia’s business developed favourably in 2018. Revenue grew and profitability improved. The Group had several major projects underway, including the Laitaatsalmi bridge in Savonlinna, the Lahti southern ring road, the upgrading of National Road 4 near Oulu and to the north of Äänekoski and the upgrading of National Road 5 between Mikkeli and Nuutilanmäki. Destia also strengthened its position in urban construction in the capital region. Projects in progress included the construction of Kansalaistori in Töölönlahti and the Siltasairaala foundation engineering contract.
Occupational safety improved throughout Destia during the year. To improve safety, Destia placed particular emphasis on making safety observations. Occupational safety was also enhanced by introducing principal safety rules, which serve as simplified guidelines and checklists in day-to-day operations.
Destia’s order book is spread over several years and developed favourably throughout the year, reaching an excellent level at year’s end. The Group also achieved good success during the year in tendering processes implemented under new models. These included winning the Hyvinkää regional maintenance management contract and the design-build-develop contracts for upgrading National Road 4 in Kello–Räinänperä and Kirri–Tikkakoski as well as the E18 Turku ring road contract. The first of these design-build-develop projects mentioned above is already in the build phase and included in the order book for 2018.
Corporate culture based on values and leadership promise
Under the leadership of new President and CEO Tero Kiviniemi, who joined the company last year, Destia began the development of its corporate culture and the renewal of its strategy.
Destia’s corporate culture is based on the Group’s new core values announced at the end of 2018: fairly, together, renewing and successfully, as well as the leadership promise “Coaching a winning team”.

We want to develop as a company and better address the transition and changing conditions of the markets in the sector”, says Tero Kiviniemi, President and CEO.
Destia’s goal is “Connecting northern life”
According to its new strategy 2019–2023, Destia will grow into a stronger urban developer in a changing, increasingly demanding operating environment. Destia will chart new business opportunities in Northern Sweden and Northern Norway.
Destia is looking for a more prominent role in the sector’s value chain. Its strategy is to secure the competitiveness of its core business and international growth in the selected strategic areas as well as to introduce more refined business and urban development together with its partners.
“Our competitive advantage is built on customer orientation, a sense of infrastructure, intelligent production and inspiring leadership. The primary goal is to improve profitability. The spearhead of geographical expansion are renewable energy solutions. Destia’s strong order book, new strategy and the measures that have been taken towards the development of customer work and project management provide a solid foundation for improving profitability,” Kiviniemi adds.
