Destia successful in the Tekla BIM Awards 2014 competition

In December 2014, the Design & Build project for Tikkurilantie carried out as a co-operative venture between Destia and Siltanylund won the international Tekla BIM Awards competition in the Cast in-situ Structures class. The project was first highly commended in October at the Finnish Tekla BIM Awards 2014, after which it went on to the international competition.

Destia was responsible for the overall implementation of the project and Siltanylund for the bridge design. Destia’s Infra Design department carried out the model-based design of the road and the modelling of the bridge support structures, which also came out strongly in the competition. The project was completed in 2013 and involved the design and construction of a street, a bridge crossing the Vantaanjoki river, pile slabs, an underpass and related trough.

“The Tikkurilantie project was a ground-breaking bridge and highway project in terms of modelling. Efforts were made to utilise models as much as possible on site. The road structures were built naturally using mechanical automation and work supervision made extensive use of information models for the bridge in the construction phase. From the diverse utilisation of new site technology, we got valuable experience for future projects,” says Pasi Nurminen, Project Manager in charge of Destia’s research and development.

The project was one of the first infrastructure projects in Finland whose invitation for tenders required the use of information modelling in design and construction. Watch the video of the modelling of the Tikkurilantie Design & Build project.
