Destia built a new dock at the Port of Oulu

Oritkari Harbour in Oulu was getting too small for the ever-increasing size of ships. Because of occasional lack of dock capacity, ships have had to carry out loading and unloading in different stages, which has slowed down operations at the harbour. More space and a new longer dock were needed. Soft soil set tough requirements for construction: the new dock was built in an old basin for dumping suction dredge material.

The Port of Oulu received seven responses to its invitation to tender for the construction of a new dock. Destia was selected as the most cost-effective partner. The work was done in close co-operation with the Port of Oulu, and at monthly meetings it was checked that construction was proceeding according to plan. The construction of the 330-metre dock begun in October 2013 and was completed on schedule in autumn 2014.

Harbour construction calls for special expertise, including the mastery of underwater working methods.
